Introduction
In the beginning of Final Fantasy VIII, Squall and his party are on a train to Timber. On the way they experience a strange real-like dream. They are connected to the past of Laguna Loire's life. This is known as the "dream time". They fall into a sleep when connected, although on the other hand, the dream they were having actually had once happened before.
While Squall and his party is in the dream world. The situation they find themselves is three men, in the Galabadian Army. The group of men decide to rest at Deling City. There they reach the hotel and listen to Julia Hearitly play the beatiful piano. Laguna, having crush on Julia decides to go and talk to her. Instead, his leg cramped up (its cramps when he's nervous) and he unsuccesfully, things didn't go well. His buddies, Ward and Kiros, urge him to try again and talk to her. When Kiros and Ward have just recently left, Julia goes to Laguna and asks him to ask the the front desk of the hotel and ask for her room.
At her room, they talk freely. At first it was a little rough, but soon the conversation eased in. After a while, Julia tells Laguna she wishes to sing, and tells him, from what she has heard, Laguna's words have given the inspiration to sing & write her first song. He tells her that he wishes to become a journalist and travel all around the world and express his ideas.
Second Meeting
We next see Laguna and his buds in some unknown territory. They find themselves in what appears to be some Esthar manufacturing factory of some sort. The trio walks into the place unknowing what they might get themselves into. They decided to set up some booby traps, the Esthar soldiers are there enemies, the Sorceress Adel is the person controlling the Esthar city.
Laguna, Kiros, and Ward confronted several of the Esthar soldiers and finally had to make a grand escape by jumping off a high suspended cliff above the ocean. Ward had taken injury during one of the battles and his vocal chords had been damaged. Thus, he no longer had the ability to talk. Kiros had few injuries from the fall while Laguna was brought into the quiet town of Winhill.
A Quite Little Town
The third dreamtime, takes place in the quite town of Winhill. There, Laguna has fully recovered and has lived in Winhill for a long some time. Raine, a young woman took care of Laguna and nursed him back to health. There Laguna met Raine and Ellone. Ellone is a little girl whose parents died while the Sorceress Adel was looking for a successor for Esthar. (Sorceress Adel is the ruler of Esthar and has been ruling Esthar uprightly) Ellone's parents refused and were killed instantly on the spot. It was then at a young age that she was left an orphan. Raine being Ellone's next door neighbor took her and raised her as her own. Although she never called Raine "Mother" because she would always have a special place for her parents. Laguna formed a love for Raine, although he had never admitted it at the time. He said he owed alot to her. Ellone was like a daughter to him, and he always keep a sharp eye on Ellone.Esthar
Now the trio are in trouble. They are being worked to death in a Esthar prison. The Esthar soldiers had finally gotten a hand on Ellone and Laguna is determined to get her back. At the prison, the group gets into some more tricky battles but in the end, they escape from prison. At the prison, he formed a bond with a mooba, who was being over worked. Another man who was taken captive had suggested that Laguna should become the leader of the rebellion against the sorcerer. Not thinking, he agrees to the idea, and rushes on to save Ellone.
Ellone was being help at Dr. Odine's Labatory for some experiments (not torture, but she seemed very unhappy). Laguna, Kiros, and Ward go into the laboratory. There Laguna frees Ellone and sends her to Winhill, back to Raine.
Present Time
It comes for a call to visit the techno city of Esthar. The Sorceress Edea wants to be free of the "head" sorceress' power and goes to visit Dr. Odine, a mastermind in inventions, as far as magical ones come from. While in Esthar, Squall had received a call from a certain "Kiros" that the President of Esthar would like to speak to him on a plan to defeat the Sorceress Ultimetica.
Now the group is at the Presidential Palace, and they discover that Laguna is now the President of Esthar! Laguna explains the plan to defeat the sorceress, I'm not telling you that! He would refuse to tell what happened to Raine, he seemed very sad.
Ending
In the end of Final Fantasy VIII, Laguna is at Winhill looking at the hills. He looks at the ring on his hand, and thinks of the memories of the past. Then we see Laguna, about 20 or so years younger. Raine comes to visit him. A bit shy, he waves good-bye and walks away. Raine comes up to him, and he suddenly takes her hand and places a ring on her finger. Happily the two embrace, then we are once again brought to the present time. Laguna took a few steps, where we sadly see a grave of Raine; she had died while giving birth to Squall. Ellone then appears and she waves happily, cheering up Laguna somewhat. Above him is the Balamb Garden in flight.
